Ice Ice Baby

Some may think having iced coffee in the winter is a no go and shiver at the thought of it. I'm that person who gets iced coffee no matter the season. Why do I do this? Because I strongly believe that iced coffee is better than hot coffee.

Iced Coffee is Less Acidic

Research shows that iced coffee has 67% less acid than hot coffee. Oils full of acidic compounds are released as coffee grounds are brewed with hot water. This is what gives it that bitter taste. The less acidic the coffee is, the healthier and less bitter it is for your teeth and stomach. This is the reason why I do not like Starbucks because their coffee is too bitter for my taste.

Although hot coffee can be very aesthetically pleasing to look at, it doesn't give the same taste effect iced coffee does.

More Flavor

Iced coffee has been shown to be more flavorful. Have you ever tasted the same drink next to each other that's hot and cold? Probably not, but think about this: Imagine having an iced vanilla latte and a hot vanilla latte side by side. If you drink these simultaneously, you will notice that the iced coffee has more flavor. I really do not notice that there is vanilla flavoring in the hot latte, but I really notice it in the iced latte. It also depends on where you go to get your coffee because some places put more flavoring in than others.

Healthy

A 16 ounce iced coffee at Starbucks has only five calories, zero carbs, and it's fat free. It's great that something that tastes so good can also be healthy, which makes iced coffee super appealing. Even if it was not healthy, I would still probably drink it. But iced coffee being healthy is an extra bonus.

Better Mood

Do you ever wake up and you're just completely exhausted? This happens to me from time to time and going to get an iced coffee before school puts me in a better mood. It's a great cure for stress and fatigue.

Popularity

Iced coffee is a growing trend. According to a study from Dunkin' Donuts, about 80% of iced coffee consumers say that they're ordering more coffee this year than years past. Also in this study, 56% of consumers prefer to have iced coffee over hot coffee in the winter. I can definitely relate to the majority of people in this study.
